Release Day for A Visit to Oaklenbrooke Farm + Giveaway!

About a year ago, I was plain frustrated with my author/illustrator career, and I didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere. Aberdeen, though trying to be helpful by going after people and telling them to hire me, only succeeded in chasing off potential customers and making me go into debt (from all the people suing me over the traumatic experience of a dinosaur chase).

Then Aleigha Israel contacted me to illustrate her book.

I practically fainted (but Aberdeen revived me). Illustrating a children’s book had been a dream of mine for years, and I never believed it’d come true!

She and I worked together for a whole month, coming up with layouts for the scenes, while Aberdeen sat around critiquing my artwork. After not listening to his advice, I shipped the original drawings to Aleigha and the waiting process began. Waiting for the book to be formatted. Waiting to develop a marketing plan. Waiting for Aberdeen to stop emailing Aleigha every five minutes to ask when the book would release so he could eat it before I could tell him no.

Now all that waiting has come to an end! Today A Visit to Oaklenbrooke Farm is available for the world to buy (and Aberdeen to eat)! If you’re interested, you can buy a copy here. If you are not interested in buying a copy, my dinosaur assistant will glare at you until you do (at least he’s helpful for something). Also, the first fifty buyers will receive a complimentary bookmark (designed by me) and a keychain!

But if you are a tightwad and don’t like spending money, I’m hosting a giveaway for you to have a chance to win a FREE copy of the book! In addition, I’m also giving away an original painting of mine inspired by the book and an adorable stuffed squirrel for your child or younger sibling! And if you don’t have children or younger siblings, you are probably thankful because that means you get to keep the squirrel to yourself (in fact, he’s so stinking cute that I was tempted to keep him).

Flowers and butterflies not included.

The giveaway is open until June 14th at 11:59 p.m. EDT. You can enter by clicking here and following the instructions. Unfortunately, this giveaway is not open internationally because I am not rich and do not want extra shipping charges. Thank you for understanding. The winner will be announced June 21st.

For more info regarding the development of the book, you can visit Aleigha’s blog to read a special behind-the-scenes Q&A!

    1. Ah yes, the squirrel! I honestly think I should have bought two (one for myself and one for the winner 😉) since he’s so cute.

    1. Thank you, Shannon! 🥰 I don’t think I could illustrate a book and not include bright colors. 😆

Haha! Yeah, I’ve been there myself—a few blogs I’ve seen around but forget to visit for some reason, and then when I finally rediscover them, I wonder why I wasn’t following them before. 😆
